Given the importance of exporting to the Australian economy, the objectives of the awards are to showcase Australia’s top exporters, to promote them as role models, and to encourage other Australian businesses to strive for success in world markets.
This is achieved through direct contact with Australian business representatives at Export Award events and through the generation of press coverage of the national and state/territory finalists and winners.
The Australian Export Awards are an example of the strong co-operation that exists between state and territory governments, the business community and the federal government to encourage the growth of Australia’s exports.
Representatives from Austrade, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and each state/territory plan and implement the Awards program each calendar year. Award categories, eligibility rules, judging criteria, application processes, marketing and publicity activities are reviewed annually and improved upon as appropriate.
Using the agreed guidelines, each state/territory runs its own Awards program. This will include the state/territory launch of the Awards, marketing of the Awards, handling of applications, judging and a state/territory Awards presentation ceremony.
The state winners of each designated national category progress to become a finalist in the national Australian Export Awards. (Each state/territory has the discretion to not present an award in a category if the quality of the applications is not in keeping with the high standards of the program.)
Austrade provides Secretariat services for the Australian Export Awards. For further information, contact exportawards@austrade.gov.au or phone 1300 88 19 20.
