Case Study - Codan Limited (SA)

Codan-Banner

Winner, Information and Communication Technology Award

Codan Limited designs, manufactures and markets high-value-added electronics products for government, military, peace-keeping, security, counter-narcotics, humanitarian and sophisticated consumer markets. Over 85 per cent of revenue is derived from sales to more than 150 countries.

Codan is headquartered in South Australia and employs about 450 people in 11 locations, including Australia, USA, UK, Ireland, China and India. Codan’s product range includes high-frequency radios, satellite communications equipment and metal detectors.

Their radio systems are widely used by border control and counter-narcotics agencies throughout Afghanistan, Central Asia and Africa. Codan’s countermine products are used in the detection of unexploded land mines and ordnance and are supported by military and UN organisations.

In 2010–11, Codan achieved revenue of almost $170 million. The company was founded in 1959 to develop communications networks for regional Australia, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The Export Awards judging panel were impressed by Codan’s strong export focus and ability to diversify their product range.
