In just over 40 years, Deakin University has transformed from modest regional institution into one of the world’s leading young universities. Testament to its success is the increase in annual revenue from international students, from $143 million in 2013 to $196 million in 2016. Deakin was one the first Australian universities to open international offices, and has research and teaching partnerships in over 100 countries. It has more than 54,000 students, including some 10,000 international students from 121 countries. In 2016, Deakin grew its presence in and commencements from South Asian countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, India and Nepal.
Judges commended Deakin for the execution of their export strategy and the leadership demonstrated tapping into the digitally savvy student population.
